In a press release to the City, in response to the Guardian, Cineworld defined: “As main US. markets, primarily New York, remained closed and with out steerage on reopening timing, studios have been reluctant to launch their pipeline of latest movies.

Mooky Greidinger, Cineworld’s chief government, stated the choice was not one they made “lightly”.

The chief introduced: “This is not a decision we made lightly, and we did everything in our power to support safe and sustainable reopenings in all of our markets – including meeting, and often exceeding, local health and safety guidelines in our theatres and working constructively with regulators and industry bodies to restore public confidence in our industry.”
